5w-30 comes as either dino or a full synthetic.

- Fuel-efficient formulas include special friction modifiers that save gas
- Premium additive packages fight sludge, varnish, rust, corrosion and wear
- Formulated for easy cold-weather starting–at temperatures down to -10 degrees Fahrenheit (-23 degrees Celsius) with 5W-30 and 0 degrees Fahrenheit (-18 degrees Celsius) with 10W-30
- Both oils meet vehicle manufacturers' performance requirements for gasoline engines
- 5W-30 is recommended to service any gasoline-powered passenger car or light duty truck engine prior to 2001 model year

It don't matter. Use an oil with the latest API rating, I think it's SL now. Use the proper weight for your engine. Use a good filter, I strongly recommended Motorcraft. Change your oil and filter regularly (along with other basic maintenance things, fluids and filters, etc.), and quit thinking so hard about oil.

I've got 6 quarts of Motorcraft 5W30 sitting in a Wal-Mart bag on my tool shelf, which reads on the back of the bottle "synthetic blend"!
Um,Uber, you think Motorcraft slipped some 5W20 into my 5W30 bottles and misprinted the back of the bottle?
Sorry, but Motorcraft 5W30 "AND" 10W30 are synthetic blends! And,can you guess who makes this oil? CONOCO!!!!!!!

I used Castrol 50/50 for about 198,000 miles - always used motocraft and wix filters - 200,000 + and running Amsoil 100% syn now . I think it's the best , if not - I want to know. Also I've read I don't have to change until 7500. So I figured 5000 miles I 'll change it out to be safe. Great compression , no leaks and it does't burn any at all within 3000 miles.
I have a 98 5.4L tho.
Miles speak for themselves , just burn the quality stuff..
