I-6 in my 1995 f150

Alright I got a I-6 4.9L 300ci 5 speed. I'm looking to make it a little bit faster like 10-30 horsepower, should I turbo it or drop in supra engine? Thanks in advance.

Headers, cam and good exhaust will give you the extra ponies you want. Clifford research has the headers, and Crane, amoung others has the Cam. Clifford also has there own injection system, so they may help there two. Not sure if you can find a bigger throttle body and injectors to work.

I wish all the luck and many h.p. but that engine is for torq and has such a short powerband it won't be cost effective to soup up

I have a friend who souped up his 1986 F150 300 I6. He put the Clifford header on, Offenhauser intake for 4 barrel and Edelbrock 390 cfm 4 barrel carb. Side exhaust. He drove it for years, until he sold it to his dad for a farm truck. Very reliable setup, still running today, he thinks there is around 300 rounds on it. Does not know for sure, since speedo has not worked in years. The truck has more power, mostly noticeable when towing. As far as being faster, I do not think it is that much faster for the money invested. The 4 barrel is what helped the most, obviously, since there was only a 1 barrel on it before. I have heard of people putting a 240 head on a 300 to increase compression, but that is not an option to you since yours is fuel injected. (Unless the manifold fits that head?)

I had a 1986 F150 I6 with a 4 inch lift and 33's, I can understand why you want more power. If you saw a hill coming on the interstate you had better floor it a mile ahead of time. Most reliable truck I ever had.

Great engine. I had a '78 that went 325k miles before it started breaking wrist pins(2), think the crank was bent or something. But as far as making it faster, try a different gear ratio in the rear end. It won't be more powerful, but it will go faster.

The RESULTS pages of Project MPG show how to REALLY make more power efficiently, but you're never gonna get V8 performance from an I6. If you want that, either swap in a V8 (maybe like Quint did ) or buy a truck with a factory V8.

Personally, I'm happy with my 4.9L. It pushes 3 tons shaped like a brick with wheels, & I can still set the cruise over 100mph.

I had an 83 300-6 F150 4X4. AT 200K, I pulled the motor, and rebuilt it. Crane Cam, Mac Headers, Offy Dual Plane Intake, Holley SpreadBore 390 4BBL w/vac secondaries. 3.55 gears, and stock SI/SO exhaust from a V8 truck.

This motor pulled hard to 5000 RPM. Low end torque was awesome. Gas mileage, if I kept my foot out of it, was great. These mods really waked up that motor. I surpised a lot of stock V8 trucks with it!

Biggest problem with the stock motors is the intake is so restricted. The 390 Spreadbore was a perfect match to that motor. I sold the truck at 260K, in 1997, and the guy I sold it to drove it for at least 3 more years. He moved, so I never saw it after that.
