Engine Swap

I have an 85 f150 with a LOW milage engine (79,000) and access to a decent V6 SWB 98 F150...how hard is it to swap the engines? Thinking of keeping the 5spd in the 98 if I do....

Not possible, unless you swap transmissions, & a $#!+load of other stuff. Take a look at this:

On the "legal" side of it all, you can't put an older engine in a newer vehicle and expect to pass any emission test...... Now, if you don't have to test or you don't care, then this is moot...

As far as doing it regardless, I assume you have either a 302 or 351 in the '85 now??

While I'm sure it will physically fit, you will have to rig up and fab all the necessary connections to make the accessories work and make the stock gauge cluster work....

Can't tell you on the transmission, but I'm sure there is some sort of adapter plate that can be found or made.

While it sounds like a 'fun' project, I don't think it would be very cost effective if you intend this to be your daily driver....

I'm only looking at this from knowing diddly squat of what your ultimate intentions are and from my working on motors from that time period to what these 'new' trucks have in them now.....

Some more info might help, but I think you are looking at a $$ project..

Good luck!

Mitch

I realize he went the other way, but the concept is similar. You'd have to address many of the same issues he did, for many of the same reasons.
