Need help with repairs and obd codes

I am working an 2001 f150 4.6. Its running rough. I used my easy scan and got a P0356 -F coil malfunction, P306, #6 misfire, and P1401 EGR EVP sensor circuit high.

May be dumb questions, but I am unfamiliar with these fords. How are the cylinders orientated (location of #6, and is that also the F coil location?)

Do you think the coil is also the misfire problem, (obviously, but would it throw a separate code?)

And where is the diff pressure sensor for the 1401 located.?

Thanks so much in advance.

#1 is front pass, #4 is rear pass, #5 is front drvrs, # 8 is rear drvrs...etc

A=1
B=2
.
.
. etc

The is is likely the reason for both codes. replace the spark plug at the same time, use dielectric grease generously.

The DPFE sensor is at the end of the EGR sample tubes.

Thanks Steve. Its my x-wifes truck and she is kinda strapped for cash so I am helping what I can. She doesn't have a book, although I may get her one to help find the components. I have the EZscan 5000 so getting and resseting the codes is the easy part.

So Cylinder #6 and coil F is the second from the front on the drivers side. Good deal. New coil and plug should fix that problem.

What general area will I find the DPFE sensor, and is it servicable, or is it a replacement item?

Does anyone have any experience with those 15.00 ebay coils or a good source to order another one and the DPFE Sensor?

Thanks
Robert

This works for any Ford with a DPFE sensor: To find the DPFE sensor, located the EGR valve and the exhaust tube that supplies it. Follow the tube back towards the exhaust pipe/manifold untill you reach two small tubes that branch off it. Follow these sample tubes to the DPFE sensor.

The Ford plastic sensor is much improved over the previous metal-bodied version. If going aftermarket, also stick with a plastic sensor.

Verify the #6 COP is correctly plugged in. You can also check the resistance of the primary portion of the coil to see if it's open before spending any money. Bought my COP from AZ. Around $50 or so.

DPFE sensor

I have a 2001 f150 4.6 and Ford sent me a recall letter some time ago concerning the DPFE sensor. Bulletin 02M01 citing bad DFPE sensors. My truck eventually came up with the bad code, so the Ford dealership replaced the sensor at no cost, SENSOR ASY part# is 4U7Z-9J460-AA.

They tried to charge me a $81.00 diagnostic service but I spoke with the service manager and told him the trouble code called for a DPFE sensor malfunction so I paid zero.

Anyway good luck!

Thanks, I found this after reading your post.
"TSB #02M01 -- CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 02M01 SUPPLEMENT #4. CERTAIN FORD 2000 THROUGH 2003 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A TUBE-MOUNTED EGR PRESSURE SENSOR - ADDITIONAL EGR PRESSURE SENSOR WARRANTY COVERAGE. *TT SUPPLEMENT #3. *MJ SUPPLEMENT #6 (NHTSA ID #10007207, JUNE 01 2004)

it seems thay extended the warrantee 2 years and 24000 miles for this recall. Now its pretty much just a TSB. I think mileage wise at 99K its past the warrantee. But I am going to give them a call just for kicks. Thanks.

BTW, a new coil and plugs fixed the misfire and coil codes. So the trucks not missing anymore. Just need to get this DPFE issue resolved to keep the light off.
