1999 F-150 overdrive light

hey guys. my overdrive light on the gear shift just started blinking. it will blink a few times and then cut off. it doesnt seem to effect the driving, and i dont havea code checker to pull the code. sometimes it doesnt come on at all, and it usually goes off right away after driving it for a few minutes. what do you guys think and although i will get it checked out is it something that needs to be addressed immediately? thanks.

The sooner the better.

It may only be a $30 dollar sensor but, you're rolling the dice with your $3,000 dollar transmission.

The sooner the better and likely a cheaper fix! Without codes you're just guessing what the problem is. Do you have 2 or 4 wheel drive? What tranny do you have?

I have read that most of the aftermarket readers don't do the tranny codes and that you have to have a dealer read it for accuracy. But that's just what I've read on various forums so take it with a grain of salt...

Any decent transmission shop can diagnose and repair it.

As for pulling the codes, all you need is a scan tool with "manufacturer-defined codes" support. The cheapest ones don't do this and that is what most auto parts stores carry and use.
