Smile I have some new parts too, but not as many as Neal.

Well I started my rebuild. I have a few new parts including a short block.
I am building a strong, mildly boosted tow motor to replace my high milage 4.6

Here are some of the things I have so far:

This is the new short block just off the Ford pallet. It seems a shame to disassemble it.

This is after disassembly; I’ll be reusing the crank.

Here is a picture of the new rods from Manley.

Here is the new oil pump, also from MMR like Neal’s.
You can also see the package that contains the special MMR/Felpro Head Gaskets under the oil pump

Got a set of ARP head studs.

I will post pictures of the pistons when they come in probably tomorrow. Everything goes to the machine shop Saturday for balancing.

Here are the heads. 2001 Windsor off a 5.4. They are very low milage, completely rebuilt with new valves and deck plained to match the gaskets.

and they have the inserts for the spark plugs, no blow-out here.

These ceramic coated JBA's have been sitting around the garage waiting for the right time to put them on. I think this is the right time.

Mostly cost. I got these used for a good price.

I am mostly doing a MILD PERFORMANCE rebuild. Cost and longevity are both main issues.

Neal has gone over to the Dark Side (envy, envy, envy).

I will have to depend on the Force... Force-d induction that is.

This rebuild will give me a strong tow motor that will withstand moderate boost for the long run…and…not break my budget.

As an update:
I got the rotating assembly back from the machine shop. The crank is installed and I am now file fitting the rings. That is very tedious work. I can see why the machine shop charges so much to do an engine assembly. I’m going to try to get a couple pictures up for those who may consider doing this in the future. I am filing a couple cylinders daily since I’m working on this part time.
Starting Saturday I will be on this full time and hope to have the engine assembled by Sunday. Then out with the old and in with the new. I have all next week off and hope to have the engine in and started up early in the week.
My tune will not change since I am basically replacing with the same displacement and CR, just improved with the forged components, ARP studs, high volume oil pump and better head gaskets. I will get the benefit of PI heads.
Stay tuned…

HI!... WLF : You will luv that MMR racing pump. I have to go buy a higher reading AUTO METER oil pressure gauge now. My current one only goes to 100PSI and and my 5.4 sits at 85-90 PSI at idle. Give it a shot of gas and it pegs past the 100PSI needle instantly!!!! LOL!

Quick Reply: I have some new parts too, but not as many as Neal.
