5.4 Oil sending unit leaking

I have a 2001 F-150 with a 5.4 with 40,000 miles. It started leaking oil and I took it into the Ford dealership that I bought it from. They tell me the oil sending unit is leaking. What puzzles me is I didn't have a problem untill I had them change the oil the last time. It has been about 4 1/2 months but only 600 miles. I didn't notice the leak beacuse I had the truck parked in the grass. My question is, could they have broke the sending unit while changing the oil filter. One of the threads I read sounds like the sending unit is near the oil filter. It wouldn't be such a big deal, but they want $136.00 to change it.
Thanks for any info you can give me.

Try tightening the sending unit snug. Don't overtighten. It may have loosened to the point it is leaking.

Confront them with the issue. Yes it is intirely possible that they knocked it when doing the oil change. With the correct tools it should take less than 5 minutes to change. The sender should cost no more than $20.00.

Did they damage it???...maybe.
Is it faulty???...maybe.
Did they create return business???...maybe. I once worked in a garage where this was commonplace.
