Starter problems...

Okay, so I've been battling this starter problem for a while... it seems that the positive side on the starter keeps coming loose... i can barely reach the top side of the starter to tighten on it good or put any kind of thread lock on it... how hard is it to remove the starter and work on it from outside the vehicle? Also, I am going to re-run the hot and ground from the battery to the starter.... whats that little wire by the positive side for?

Daniel

Starters are simple; but always refer to the repair manual before you begin any removal process. Check the 'net for articles on removing a starter if you do not have access to your model's repair manual.

Around $140.00. I just replaced mine and that's what it cost me.

at the risk of repeating myself

make your life easy

jack up the right front
remove the tire
remove the plastic inner fender
remove the starter

this also works great for removing O2 sensors

life gets simple if you think outside the box

I'm pretty careful and I broke off the top bolt trying to get the starter off my '97 4.2L manual transmission. Even though just the cap broke off the bolt, and I smacked it pretty good and heated around it and then cooled the bolt itself, the bolt broke again. Thought it was just bad luck, but the used transmission I put back in it had a broken off bolt in the same place. Bottom line, it can be tougher than it should be to remove a starter.
