Serpantine Belt

Hey everyone, got a 99F150 with a real bad serpentine belt squeak. Actually, had an updated one put in under warranty a few years ago. Will the belt spray work or will it make it worse like it did on my dad's truck??? Any ideas here? or should I just get buy a new one from Ford ($60)??? Thanks!!!

Don't waste your money on the spray. It will help for a couple of days but once it dries out it will squeal again. It could be the tensioner(sp?) is loose causing the squeal.

So both belts squeaked badly? Well, if it is the belt itself, try a Gatorback, they are supposed to be great. It'll cost you a few bucks more than the Ford one, but I'm told it is well worth it.

But, you're describing two belts being squeaky in a relatively new truck. Are you sure it is the belt itslef, or do you think maybe the tensioner or a pulley is to blame? You may want to investigate that before dropping a new belt in. I believe Ford says the belts should last somewhere around 60,000 miles. Good luck!

Yup, get the gatorback. I too had went to the dealer and had my belt replaced under warranty only to have it start squeeling a few months later. However, since I installed my gatorback I have never had this problem again, even after my valvebody install!

Cool

If you don't want to wait for shipping and such, most AutoZone stores carry the Gatorback belt for our trucks.

Just be sure to check your existing belt and get the proper number of ribs on the replacement (6 or 8).

I paid $45 for it at AutoZone when I put my shiftkit in.

Nope, the dealer replaced my belt after only 11,000 miles...

On the flip side, the original belt on my '97 lasted 160,500 miles before I replaced it, and it is still serviceable and kept as a short term spare if need be...

Gatorback is teh way to go. It's less expensive than the stock replacment, but it's one heck of a lot better quality wise.

battery light flickers after changing serpentine belt

We are trying to figure out why the battery would flicker, not all the time, just when you idle and hold the break or when you put on the heater- last night it was right around 9 on the meter, but this morning it was totally charged.. do we have too big of a belt, or is our alternator going bad? Please help, please help fast!! Thank you!
