Check Engine Light

Last spring, my 4.6 with 76K miles on it ran rough for about 10 seconds and the "Check Engine" light came on. I took it to the Ford dealer who looked at it and said that it was caused by a miss fire but was running OK. They recommended a complete tune up and then erased the computer code. All was well until it briefly ( 5 seconds or less) miss fired again and the check engine light came on. I replaced the excessively worn spark plugs (never again), the plug wires, fuel filter and pvc valve. Now it purrs like a kitten but I couldn't reset the "check Engine" light. Is there any way for the do it yourselfer to reset or turn off this light until something else causes it to light.

I believe you have to disconnect the battery for ~30 minutes.
