Hey FORDattic

Here's the code description

CONTINUOUS MEMORY DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) 212
DTC 212 indicates a loss of IDM input to the PCM.

Possible Causes:

Open harness circuit.
Shorted harness circuit.
Damaged Ignition Control Module (ICM).
Damaged Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

If the wiring is ok, probably the ignition control module (mounted on the drivers side rear of the engine compartment). Need to check the harness for shorts or opens first.

Most of my EEC troubleshooting experience is with the SHO system, but here goes.... for what it is worth.

The 212 means the signal IDM (Ignition Diagnostic Monitor) was not received at the PCM.

Since you didn't specify what engine you have and I don't know the specifics of the 95 F-Series engines/EEC anyway, the following is generic information. Someone who is familiar with the specifics of your engine can fill in the blanks.

Looking a a 93 F-150 5.0 schematic (closest I have), PIP is generated in the distributor, fed to the TFI module, which in turn generates the signal IDM and sends it to the PCM and to your dash's tachometer if you have one installed.

If your engine has the distributor-mounted TFI module, that would be the first thing I would suspect as I was personally victimzed by that POS on a 90 Tempo (yet another POS). Ford also lost the class action lawsuit concerning that TFI module and its mounting.

Watch your tach while cranking. If it does not move, concentrate on the TFI module and the pickup sensor in the distributor. Autozone can test TFI modules to see if they are good or not.

Hope this helps.

Don't sweat the wiring , go after the module and the pick up. You might get away with only doing the module but if you really want reliability do the pick up too. if you want some step by step let me know....

Did the new distributor include the TFI module or not?

Just curious...
