How fast can the F150 V8 go?

How fast has anyone got their 5.4 V8 4x4 to go? I have a 99' and it seems like it doesn't want to go any faster than 95 mph unless i'm going down a hill. Everything is stock. Thanks.

You could be up against the speed limiter.

You noted 100% stock, so I take this to mean no chip installed either.

The speed limiter is about at the speed you note.
If you put the odometer in to DTM, you can see what the speed is for what the PCM sees, removing the analog instrument.

Speedo inaccuracies still apply: actualy versus indicated and if you have larger tires.

I thought it was ~98 mph, but it seems to be a little different every year / PCM code revision.
When you tried this did you have the OD turned off ?
The truck will have problems if you are trying to push this fast in OD.

If you get a chip it removes the speed limiter.

99 5.4L auto 3.73 gears - stock. I have had my needle over 100mph, about 103 if it is linear. Does it in 3rd or overdrive. I'l have to verify speed with a GPS, but it keeps going past 95 on the speedometer.

If your truck stops at 95mph, but downhill goes faster, then the limiter is not at 95mph (indicated). You just hit an aerodynamic brick wall.

I've had my stock 2000 f150 4x4 ORP w/ 5.4 V8 a little over 100 - and it had enough grunt to keep accelerating, but I figured that was fast enough for the tires.

The limiter prevents the engine from producing signifigant power once the vehicle reaches 98 mph. This means that when you hit 98, the computer cuts the fuel and the truck stops accelerating.

Now, if you are on a steep incline.... even though the engine stops putting out power to accelerate, the force of gravity is still able to accelerate you down the hill past the vehicle's computer controlled top speed.

Cool

HI!... I've had my "99" F-150, REG-CAB, SB, SS, 4X2 up to a documented (GPS) 140.3MPH. That was at 4500RPM in O/D with 4.10 gears. I can hit 115MPH at the top of 3RD gear. I've got a *few* mods though.

I know it's only a 1998 4.6... but when mine gets to about 95 it can't go any more. Speedo dial only physically goes to 100.

I know with the chip installed I can burry the speedo, where before I couldn't.

I guess between the gnocchi for dinner and the chip I added weight to the truck and can get the needle down, so I don't think it is an areodynamic thing here.

Now what the actualy was, got me I didn't have the GPS in the truck at the time to find out.

My 97 F-150 SC 4x4 with the 4.6 and 3.55 LS has got me up to around 155 km/h . . . I think that is around 95mph. On flat ground it pulls up to 130 - 135 km/h in a fairly linear fashion. Those extra 20-25 km/h take a lot more road

My '01 5.4 tops out at 70 mph. I'm sure it will go faster, but any faster than that, my *** will suck in the rear seat too.

I'm not that dumb teenager, who loved to peg the needle every chance he got, anymore. Besides, I think 3 speeding tickets is my lifetime limit.

I've got a pic of my 97 auto 4.6 doing over 100 at 3000 rpm.

I think the title of the thread was How fast can the F150 V8 go? Not how fast do you drive it on a regular basis.....
