Bought new in 1998 (leftover) 1997 4X2 F150 XLT with about 42 miles on it. It now has 108,000 miles. Truck had issues early on with Pitman arm, rear end & exhaust when it had about 22,000 miles on it. Not sure why the rear end would have problems since it never towed anything then and only had highway miles. All of it covered under warranty.
Truck was always very well maintained with oil changes every 3500 to 4000 miles and tran oil change at required intervals (approx 30K).
Truck is now having several issues. Air Cond has freon leak (not a big deal). Front end ball joints will need replacing before long (according to 3 different shops). Engine has a knock which this morning was very much pronounced. I hope it is not a connecting rod or something (need to have it looked at asap). I have replaced the front rotors and bearings once since new and at least 3 to 4 sets of brake pads in its life so far. Other than typical minor maintenance items (spark plugs, filters, fan belt, light bulbs etc) I don't recall any other issues. I am surprised that the engine would be knocking since the Truck is not abused and does not have what I consider extreme service. Most of it's life is highway miles. The only thing that might not be considered light service is the stop and go traffic driving to and from work. I know of others who have got alot more miles out of their similar equipped F150 and did not take as good of care of it. Well, at least I was able to get 100K although I was hoping to get 150K before deciding to part with it. Maybe it is time to consider a new 4X4 although I was doing fine without those payments, taxes etc.
Update: I forgot to mention that I got 99K+ miles on the original set of 4 Goodyear tires. Goes to show that rotating and proper inflation really extend tire life.
That engine knock could possibly be a clogged catalytic converter. One of our company trucks - an 03 Ford E550 with V10 gasoline engine, was having an engine knock, and turned out it was a clogged cat. Don't know if that's problematic with the lighter duty V8s, but check with a muffler shop to see if they can diagnose the problem.
165,000 on my 02 Scab 4X4 w/4.6. Bought it in Aug '06 with 45,000 on it. Did the general maintenance, replaced the alternator and plugs. Still runs and pulls as strong as it did when I bought it. Never again will I buy a Chevy!

136,000, 98 flair side 4x4 V8 pretty much haven't changed anything but the oil. Check engine light just came on for the first time in 11years. I was pulling a camper and it started to jerk for a few seconds. I was told by a friend that he once had the same problems and to put in fuel injector cleaner and premium gas. I did the problem went away but the light is still on any suggestions?
I'm at 105,000 Miles on my 2005 5.4 lariat. Truck was beat up before I bought it. The last owner was one of those "Drive it, and drive it and drive it, and give it an oil change when I feel like it" people.
100,000 miles: 8 New spark plugs (all 8 were misfiring, but no broken plugs), new fuel injector, new lifters, cam, headers, and catalytic converters I say its a new engine now, so, If i treat it right, I might be in for the 250,000-300,000 mile club before this thing goes to the graveyard.
We have 104k on our '01 4x4 KR SuperCrew.
We bought it in March of '05 with 43k on it.
The only problem we've had is the coil pack on the #8 cylinder went bad. That's it.
When I drive it,I can get 18-20mpg,My Wife....she's lucky if she gets 10-12mpg!!(She has the tickets to prove it)
I've got a 00 lariat, 5.4 automatic. Original everything, 146k miles it turned two nights ago...still bakes the tires off and runs good, one exhaust manifold is just starting to leak.....and the T-case leaks.....not a ton but it leaks. I'll top that off later today.....reminds me...why did ford feel the need to put skid plates on these things? pointless.....you can't get to the t-case, its right in the way.
