intake manifold issues and questions?

Hey guys n gals,
have a 2001 ford f150 am having manifold issues with. Took it to firestone and the say it has the lower intake manifold damaged and needs replacement due to damaged butterfly valve? They want 1700$ to replace the danged thing? I was wondering if the later model 05-07 4.2 manifold could swap over to the older engine? If so that would be wunnerful 250 vs 800 for a manifold setup?

Thanks
Sean

Well if the manifold swap includes the throttle body, be aware that the NBS trucks (04-08) have an electronic throttle. I would think they are the same, so it seems possible. Any other details? Have you tried taking it to a Ford dealership and let them look at it?

The intake should swap over. No need to get a new TB though, since you can removed it. But I would still check with a Ford dealership.

hmmm

No my throttle body is good. No i have not taken it to the ford dealer as of yet that will be my next step it looks like. When i last talked to the ford dealer they wanted 105 $ just to look at the derned thing. Firestone did a smoke test to it and found where the leak was at. It is apparently in the lower manifold butterfly assembly from what they told me. Hmmm will await further answers on hetre and then go with one or other like taking it to a ford house. grrr.... frustrating so far.

Thanks
Sean

checked with ford dealers

Well ford dealerships say it wont cross over being a different part number so I guess will need to dig up some pictures and look to see what changes they made somehow lol.

Man I hate to say it but wish ford were like chevy engines wouldnt have so many problems with parts interchange and go to a v8 engine instead.

Thanks guys
Sean

That's not really reasonable to expect interchangeability across engine generations. 05+ went to an electronic throttle, among other things.

A lot of things change from one generation to the next. Very few parts can go from one generation to the next. Just think of how even the wipers could be different lengths.
