How much Oil does your V6 take

Our 1998 Standard V6 requires approximately 6 1/2 quarts of oil when the oil is changed. Is this consistant with other V6 owners?

My '97 took exactly 6 with a filter change. Every Ford full sized since '86 i believe is this way.

My 01 takes 6 quarts with the filter, at least that is what the dealer says when they change the oil . My old truck (a 99) also took 6 quarts according to the dealer.

My sons 1998 4.2 V6 takes exactly 6 1/2 quarts to fill it up to the top line on the dip stick. This is in conjunction with a motorcraft filter. The dealer confirmed that this is OK to do. The truck used to be mine and it just turned 30,000 miles. I have changed the oil 12 times and always use 6 1/2 quarts and the engine runs perfect.

MY 4.2 USES EXACTLY 6 1/4 QUARTS OF OIL. IT DOES'NT READ FULL WHEN IT'S COLD, BUT WHEN YOU WARM THE ENGINE UP TO OPERATING TEMPERATURE, SHUT IT OFF, AND LET IT SIT FOR ABOUT 10-15 MINUTES, IT READS PERFECTLY ON THE FULL (DOT) MARK. JUST MY $0.02

Just changed oil and filter recently on my 2002 V-6, and even though the manual calls for 6 quarts, I also needed to add 6.5 quarts to reach the top dipstick indicator.

I have a 2001 prchased in August 2001 and it also takes 6 1/2 with filter to hit full on dip stick. I find it sort of interesting that their literature says 6 qts, and the reality is 6 1/2. If 6 is fine for full up, you'd think Ford would have changed the dipstick, which would cost virtually nothing. Instead, they have a bunch of new owners scratching their heads.
