Question 2014 14' F-150 EcoBoost - Recommended Air Filter?

Hey guys I have a 2014 F-150 EcoBoost and was wondering what air filter you guys recommend? Should I just go with the Motorcraft replacement or FRAM, etc?

Since your truck is still under warranty, I'd stick with Motorcraft.

Good Lord they want $17 for the OEM Motorcraft Air Filter, but I guess if it is worth it I will purchase one.

I have (new to me) 14.000 miles on my 2014 Ecoboost 3.5L. I just changed the air filter. it had the stock motorcraft and I installed a Fram. maybe a coincident, but I lost MPG at the same time.

Has anyone else seen this with a fram? The stock filter had fewer pleats with more gap inbetween them. the Fram has more pleats, tighter together.

That's surprising - Fram filters have a reputation for being lower quality than OEM.

My '13 3.5 gets amazing mileage. I put a new air filter on it a couple years ago and saw the mpgs drop drastically. I bought a K&N and the mpgs went back up to normal or better than normal. The truck had about 30,000 miles on it at the time.

The truck now has over 125,000 miles on it and the last time I did my normal trip from Escondido to LA the truck got 28.5 mpg. 65 mph always. The filter makes a huge difference if you put a bad one on.

It was difficult to buy a new '15 but I did it. 2.7 gets better miles per gallon than the 3.5.

I would put the factory air filter back on it. That way if there is ever an issue you can say it's all ford. I am leary of putting k+N type filters on turbo engines. I am seen test results where the heavy draw from the turbos sucks dirt through the filter.

Motorcraft or Purolator. Purolator manufactures the filters for Motorcraft.

I bought the K&N drop in filter. Didn't notice any HP gain, but I did get an xtra 2 miles per gallon. Went from 11.8 to 14.0 this winter. Truck has 12K on it. Just need to clean and reoil in every 10K. I kept my standard filter for when I need to clean it. Worth the $45 to me

Be careful with the K&N. The oil can foul the MAF, and it does not filter anywhere near as well as a stock paper filter.

Aware, thanks. I normally spray mine and let it sit for 24 hours, then run a rag over it. Used it now since 2010, no issues. Worth it's weight in gold to me.

Yep, there's a reason K&N filters are so expensive - look at test results. The fouling of the MAF does happen, but usually after prolonged use and/or from being over-oiled during cleaning.
