24000 miles, threw a rod today

Not kidding! I am really not sure why. I really like the truck. 2012 F150 Super Crew. Air Raid and Edge tuner. I had the tuner on economy mode. I changed spark plugs and oil yesterday, started easier, ran for less han 20 minutes. Turned at a stop light onto 4 lane and accelerated 1/2 pedal to see if it as going to buck/shudder as it would do under hard aceleration. 20 yards from light mybe 3rd gear and pow! truck shook, looked in mirror and saw something flying from under truck(could not find what ever it was). A lot of white smoke. Oil dripping, but not a whole lot. Had truck towed to dealership. I guess I will call in the morning. I hope this is going to be a good adventure, not looking forward to this......Will keep posting!

Hate to say it, but good luck with the warranty - if they see that intake and a tune on it they will probably deny coverage.

Yeah sorry about that 'leg out of bed' scenario.

And glc is probably right unless they conclude the failure is unrelated (Like the pick up tube fell off)

Not sure, he posted the same thread on ecoboost.net and copied and pasted it to this forum.

Maybe in economy tune it was too lean and destroyed a piston and it bound up.

Good Luck, My last F150 blew up 1500 miles past the warranty and had to get a new truck. Went with Ecoboost and love it so far. Guess none of the engine's are perfect.

No nothing yet. Has been at dealer a week. Called Friday and they were in the process of taking engine out(?) I hope to hear something soon. This is not spam!

Yea, they know the tuner is there. The service mgr went to start it before I could get to dealer. Once the Hood opens, they will see the Cold Air Kit. I hope for the best, but.....

Not sure what to do if they do not waranty. Should I get a crate motor, or take to Machine shop? Maybe Rousch in Charlotte?

First thing to do is find out why the warranty is voided. I can guess why.

Take the tuner off and put the Stock air box back on and take it to a different dealer ..

Too late.

First dealer will already have noted all the mods and damage in OASIS. Part of a permanent record tied to the VIN and readily available to any/all dealers.

It's done this way, in part, specifically to prevent that sort of Maskirovka.

Any new vehicle I buy I will never ever tune or do any suspension stuff until after warranty. It's just not worth the risk to me. You're an example of someone that had it blow up in their face.
