I got my 4:10 gears installed

I just got my 03 F-150 back with my 4:10 installed. Its worth the money, I can now cruise on the highway at 60 to 70 and not have to downshift. When the truck is in 4X4 low its great. I know need to reset my speedo, what's the best hand held programmer for a 4.2 V-6 ? Has anyone put on an aftermarket Y-Pipe ?

I'd get a SCT device with custom tunes from one of the reputable tuning shops that is familiar with the V-6.

What do you want an aftermarket Y-pipe for? I had a muffler shop put a SI/DO glasspack on mine with custom bent tailpipes and I'm very happy - for a whole $228 parts and labor.

I already have a cold air intake and SI/SO Gibson muffler. I was thinking if any one had an aftermarket Y-pipe if it helped with power. Is it worth to put an E-Fan and pulleys ?

A programmer with custom tunes will help a lot more than any further exhaust mod.

E-fan - yes. Pulleys, not worth the trouble.

I bought an SCT XCal3. I didn't notice a power difference, so I'd say you're getting less than 10rwhp gain. That's $40 per horsepower. I'm sure the autos will benefit from the adjusted shift points, however.

Alex, are you running canned or custom tunes? Custom tunes will make a difference, and the OP needs one anyway to correct his speedo/odo. I believe the OP also has a manual trans.

Yes I have a stick shift, I could not see buying this truck with an auto in it. When you say custom tunes what is that ?

glc, I have custom tunes from Jaws Racing in Tallahassee. Ford-only dyno performance shop.

OP, canned tunes are generic tunes mean for an across-the-board gain where custom tunes are written for your truck and your mods. Like I said, you may not see much of a change with a stick shift.

The link I posted is for a SCT device with CUSTOM tunes.

The programmer comes with 3 canned tunes. MPT sells the device along with 3 CUSTOM tunes. Troyer's tunes were CUSTOM tunes.

Custom tunes work this way - you buy the device, hook it up, and load a canned tune. Then you read out requested data, send that along with your list of mods to the tuner. He will email you custom tunes. You load them, if you feel adjustment is necessary, you datalog and get the tunes tweaked.
