I don't know of a good replacement coil that would improve what we already have. I think the factory coils are fine. They are reliable, cheap and seem to throw a good solid spark. The EB doesn't seem to have high boost misfires when the plugs are in good shape.

Now, I did change the old style coils on my Audi to the newer FSI coils (they are similar to the Ford ones) and it helped a lot. The factory coils didn't produce a very hot spark and high high RPM boost they could suffer misfires from blowout. They were also expensive to replace so it made sense to change them to a better product.

Thanks, guys. I kind of suspected that the CPs were likely okay. Guess I am just going with plugs at .030....or.......0.028?

Where are you seeing .028, KRC?

I knew you would ask me that I think it was from the ford tech (Makuloco ??)thats on the forum and does the great videos. Seen it mentioned a few times now.. Most Tuners are now recommending .025.

I'm running an 87 octane tune from 5* with my plugs at .030 and have no issues. I don't think anything smaller would really help a mostly stock truck.

I'm running the MPT and 5 Star at .030 also.

I Figured by lowering to .028 would help later on as the plugs start to gap out.

The last set of Motorcraft plugs were all gapped right at .030". Be careful when checking the gap on them as the center electrodes are pretty small. It really isn't a bad job, 30 minutes and a beer and it should be done 45 minutes tops unless you start doing other stuff while you're under the hood.

Fixed so far

I have a 2011 ecoboost fx4 and had the issue of misfiring and shuddering. It would do this if I accelerated passing someone on the freeway or highway. Would be doing 100-120km/h and go to accelerate to pass someone and would start shaking. I got the misfire #3 cylinder code up one time because i really stepped on it and the engine light starting blinking so I eased off right away (obviously lol) it was in limp mode for a few seconds then engine light stayed solid. Got it home np and plugged in the reader thus getting the misfire on 3. Reasearching and finding these forums I decided to go ahead and drill the 1/16 drain hole. I then took it back on the freeway but was having the same result. (when i drilled the hole i didnt have the truck running and didnt notice any leaking). When I got back i noticed a good amout of oilish watery whatever it was stuff that was sprayed out. I was like what the hell. Why didnt it work. So then I again kept reading these forums discussing this issue. I came across spark plug gap needing to or should be .30 I decided to check the gap on the plugs. Easy. Cheap. I found every plug to be gapped at .40 - .45. Had plugs changed at 108 000km and I have 115 000km now by the way. I cant remember what the book says on 2011 spark plug gap but Im sure it was .36 or .38 maybe. Idk. But people are saying gap should be at .30 so that is what I did. I took it back on the freeway and it is awesome!! Drove it for at least 40 minutes doing 100 and punching it. Back to normal. Feels great! So far lol. Great great feedback on these forums. They are saweet. Please post your finds! Hope this helps someone! Thanks will poat back in a few thousand more km or if any issues happen.

yes at 10 buck didn't seem like the deal I thought it was..i thought they would last longer, I will pull and regap, I think the true fault was I did NOT GAP THEM TO START. THAT WAS MY STUPIDITY.. I DID NOT realize how serious the gap was. after seeing motorcraft plugs ceramic cracking..

under the heat. I am not sure NGK are not better? I really don't know.. doesn't seem any one does.. I agree that people are getting 40-60k miles from new on them, but not the 100k they are rated for.. please don't take me wrong..

My plugs do not last 40K within 15-20 it misses and need pulled and gapped back to 0.30.
My iridium plugs I pulled and found them at 0.42-0.44 probably stock they where 0.40.
I have 4k on them now after regapping and there are no miss fires. I have 20 in wheels 12 in wide 32 in tires and am getting 22.5mpg on highway. all around driving I get 16.8mpg.

Weep hole

i drilled 1/16 weep hole in my intercooler and my check engine light came on after 1 day. Ended up having to replace intercooler. I got new cop’s and spark plugs. Drilled hole after and it caused a no boost in my turbo and cost me even money. Could someone answer this for me as to why everything ive read sd its what you should do (weep hole) and the one i drilled screwed me. Im still having misfire after all of this as well
