That would be a major safety issue, no power brakes!

$328.00 at Amazon.

Yep, like glc said, no power brakes and possibly some other weird issues.

It provided vacuum to the brake booster since the manifold can't provide it. Just the nature of the Ecoboost...

gone

I pulled the vacuum pump yesterday and racked up 50 miles of city/road miles without concern. I will check with the Ford dealer, but from what I can see, it may go in the scrap pile and stay there.

A vacuum pump does not pull in outside air... it pushes air out...

It is pulling air out of the hose that connects to the vacuum booster. So any air that enters the vacuum pump is actually coming from inside the truck cab.

... not unless you want your brake light to be on all the time and you like using manual brakes...
and if you want to know what manual brakes feel like then read some of the comments of people who's vacuum pump has died. None of them seem to like it.

The way I see it, the brake booster has plenty of vacuum from the engine running. The only function this "secondary vacuum pump" could serve is after a full throttle "boost condition" that could deplete the engine vacuum.

It has been 24+ hours and about 100 miles of regular city commuting traffic and all is well. In the worst condition, the amount of brake pedal pressure would be increased due to the potential loss of vacuum in the brake booster.

For now the vacuum pump will reside in the scrap pile.

Maybe I will visit the Ford store for their .02

So I need this very same pump and just called the dealer $383.00.
Whiskey Shooter you said you got it for $180. I would like to know where?
This is part number BRPV10. At least that is what my dealer said.
Anyone know of a cheaper supplier and confirm part number

$383 is a good price from a dealer. Most online sources are in the low to mid 300's.

Does this pump run the 4wd system as well? My truck won't go into 4wd and I hear a loud compressor like noise from this pump.

Hi slyons316,

If you're having difficulty tracking down the source of your concern, you can always make an appointment at your Ford Dealership for diagnosis. What's your truck's model year/mileage?

Thanks for the quick reply, slyons316; let me know if you decide to get this diagnosed at the dealership. Could you give me a rough idea of how many miles are on your truck currently?

Thanks, slyons316! I'm not a technician, so I'm not the best resource for diagnostic assistance; I'll continue to keep an eye on this thread to see if you opt to get your dealer involved.

I just got a letter from Ford Customer Service telling me to have my vehicle inspected at dealer if I had any noise. Letter said that the pump was being given a 10 year 150,000 mile warranty. To keep letter in vehicle and bring it in if any problem. To be a no cost replacement of the pump. I am located in North central Texas. Took to local dealer and they made a copy and put it in my customer file. Also posted it on bulletin board less my name and vin for all owners to beaware.
