Blown Ecoboost at 79000!!!!!

I am so frustrated. I have a 2011 F150 and the dealer is telling me I need a new motor. There is a tapping sound in the motor. There are no check engine lights. Since I'm over the 60K it's going to cost me 9400.00!!!!!
Since my first oil change I have run with synthetic and have always changed the oil before it was due.
Has anyone else had problems?

I would take it to another dealer in the area. I've had dealers blow smoke before. I take everything they say with a grain of salt.

Even if you have to drive an hour or so it could give you a new perspective.

I would be well beyond pi$$ed off if it was mine with no tunning/engine mods.

I think my 'power train' warranty is 5yr/60k miles?? That's not too bad..

Yes, I think there are some 10yr/100k warranties out there, but look at what you have to drive to get them....

Anyway, sucky deal for sure for the OP... I hope it all works out on way or the other...

It's bad when everyone else has a 100k mile. I don't understand it. Even Fiat stands behind their trucks more.

It's a business thing. The others offer the longer warranty to try to get more customers. Ford is the number one truck manufacturer with it's more limited warranty. So, where is their incentive to extend the warranty?

I understand that, but I know for a fact that they lose customers due to their short warranty. It makes it seem like they're less reliable and that's why Ford doesn't want to warranty them past 60k. But yes, obviously they've ran the numbers and believe it's still better for them to keep the 6yr/60k, otherwise they would have changed it. Doesn't affect me because it'll be a while before I ever have a vehicle with a warranty, but I still feel like it displays low confidence in your product. Quality parts and goods come with longer warranties.

Bluejay is correct here. They offer 100,000 miles on their Certified Pre-Owned vehicles to unload them. That is an incentive and it makes it easier to sell the vehicles. Toyota only has a 60,000 mile powertrain warranty also on their vehicles, and they sell more than anyone. Like another poster mentioned, look at what you have to drive in order to get a 100K warranty. Chrysler / Fiat could offer a 500,000 mile warranty and I wouldn't buy one of those again. My truck has needed a lot of warranty work, and though I didn't have to pay for it, it was still a pain in the a%* to take it in each time.

If the vehicles don't sell then the warranty is offered to get customers. Hyundai is a good example. They were crappy cars to begin with. But their 10/100k warranty kept enough customers long enough that the company succeeded and gave them time to get their cars up to par. With GM, that's another matter. Will they ever make long lasting reliable vehicles? You decide.

Lack of information leads me to believe there has to be more to this story......
What was the diagnosis by the dealer? I bit more descriptive than "a tapping sound in the motor"

Don't all the Ecoboost engines make a tapping sound? Mine sounds like a sewing machine.
