Working on my father in laws 97 f150, rough start

Ok so when you go to start it it wants to start then dies you do that for about ten or so tries and it starts like nothing happened I took it to have the check engine light checked and they said cam shaft position sensor and o2 sensor. I know the o2 sensor won't cause this so I tried for the cam position sensor. It worked for a little bit then started back to the way it was any thoughts?

Does it take the ten or so tries to start it, both cold and warm?

Please post the exact numeric codes.

Will it keep running if you crack the throttle slightly? If so, clean or replace the IAC.

I'll give that a try it does start better with the gas pedal half way down. I changed the fuel filter on it and it started right up for a while then started acting up again

If it starts better with the pedal halfway down, you probably have a bad IAC.
