Can you drop a 2008 4.2 into the 2000 f150? intake swap?

Hello all! Im new to posting on the forum but have been a troll for a while and this board has helped me out alot! I hope to be able to contribute as well. at any rate, I bought a 2000 f150 4.2 and the engine is shot. I am wondering if it is possible to swap the upper intake (or just the plenum and TB) on an 05-08 so that it would work with the old setup? I understand that the blocks are the same, however, I was not sure if this type of swap can be done. It seems that there are many more low mileage 4.2's between 05- and 08.

Any potential problems, warnings, and criticism is welcome!

I found a direct swap (01) with 85K on the clock, but the 08 has 45 on it! both are less than $100 difference. Thank you all in advance for your help!!

Limping around sucks: help:

Hello,
I am a Newb here as well, & have just replaced the engine in my 2004 Heritage.

I Personally would go with the 2001 engine, it will be a drop in compared to the 2008, which would require you to strip it down to a Long Block & redress with everything from your old motor.

Well that's a situation. Basically $100 to pay yourself to strip down an engine. 40k miles difference is really nothing, especially for an 01. That's maybe 3 years of average driving. The 08 I know for a fact you will need to swap the intakes, but I'm not too terribly sure on what else was changed, wheras the 01 you can just drop it in. What intake do you have on the truck currently and what intake is on the 01? Some years has plastic, some had aluminum. I think aluminum are generally more wanted since you don't have to deal with the whole isolator bolt gasket leaks. Like I said, 40k is not a whole lot of mileage. You can run these V6s to 300,000+ before you need to start replacing things (ask me how I know). Whichever engine you choose, you're fine.

Raptor and Pitts!

Thanks for the replies! I have been running around the internet looking for more information and pulled the trigger on an 01 with 82K on the clock. It worried me some about all of the changeover with a newer engine, and 8 years is a LOT of time for the Fordmeisters to change something goofy.

Currently I have the aluminum intake, however, I think the newer one will have the plastic intake. Would you suggest that I swap these? Once again I am assuming that my al intake will fit properly. Hope to have the engine in this week! Thank you all for the advice!

Oh! Nearly forgot to ask you Raptor.....how do you know? lol that is good to hear....I like my old/new truck. Haven't had one since I was 17, and I had forgotten how much I like em...would love to get 300K on an engine!

Garr! just looked at your infor 325K! Well done sir! nice truck!

I'd check to see if the TB from the old intake will work with the new one because I think the 08 TBs were drive by wire not by cable. I could be wrong but its something to check out.

Hello 97xl! I think you are right about the drive by wire thing. I actually ended up buying a 01 engine which will hopefully be here soon. I think I will try to switch the intake as I think the one coming is plastic! I'll keep ya posted. Hope to have it by this weekend!

I put an 08 4.2 v6 in my 97 F150. Had to make up the wiring harness put on a 65mm TB, had a spacer made that holds my IAC val, stainless steal bracket made to hold the throttle cable fuel regulator with a return and a few other odds and ends.
