f-150 2000 *Question!*

Hey I own a manual F-150 year 2000 I dont know more than the avg guy regarding cars/trucks, but I came on thte forum for a second opinion. The engine was sounding funny took it to a mechanic, I am a New resident and I dont really trust the guy, yet at least.

He said the AC clutch and pulley has locked up, and the compressor clutch and dryer need to be replaced. He said with my model ( 2000 ) the A/C cannot be disconnected becuase it would lead to the belt slipping, overheating, and the Truck losing charge.

He is looking to charge me 954$ on this, is there any Short-term solutions to this without full replacement? An option where I can half replace? or replace only the broken part of the entire AC system? I dont mind having no AC in the cabin.

PLEASE HELP

You can remove the compressor, cap the lines, and install a bypass pulley and bracket.

Why not get the parts and fix it yourself?

The bearing behind the pulley is bad. Should be replaced. The alternate of a bypass pulley and mounting bracket, removing the old compressor is one way. Another mechanic will offer to do the bearing and seal I'm sure to the compressor if U ask him. Another thing is the fasteners and clutch may be UR problem in the compressor. These parts wear and fail. A good, willing mechanic is the thing.

The good old new compressor is a sure way to have a good functioning AC pressure system and is a good investment if U keep the truck. If U don't care and don't need AC then there is the other way.
