Question Should I trade?

New here, never owned a truck before. Always had cars. Anyways, I have a 2001 Ford Mustang v6 Automatic with 139K miles. Would it be worth to trade for a 2003 F-150 Super Cab automatic with 187K miles? The truck has a new paint job. It's a grey color. Has new tires and rims. Mobil 1 oil. No leaks. Has Alphine speakers? Cloth seats. It's a step side truck by the way. Would it be worth it? It's the 4.2L v6.

Nothing wrong with a V-6 truck as long as you realize it's far from being as powerful as your Mustang. The gas mileage won't be all that good either. By 03, most of the issues with the 4.2 were taken care of, with 165k the only engine work I've had to do is plenum gaskets and isolator bolts.

You will probably pay twice as much for a 5.4 truck with lower miles. The V-6 is a great deal because the resale value is so low in comparison.

Provided the truck is in good shape I'd say you're the winner in that trade.

Same here. If you going to invest in a truck, -invest in one with a truck engine.

The 4.2 is a truck engine based off the 3.8. The 5.4 is a truck engine based off the 4.6.

Oh, is this an even trade? Without more details I can't get exact book values, but comparing a base Mustang coupe to a XL truck, with no extra options and assuming both are in "good" condition, the Mustang is worth about $400 more.

Did you test drive the truck yet? If it was well cared for, the owner might have service records to help with your decision. If not, have a mechanic who has nothing to do with the trade inspect it for you, even if they charge you for it.

The 3.8 was a car or mini-van engine. The 4.6, = same thing. The 5.4L was based for the F150/F250, because of the lack of power and torque of the other engines. It's a true and versatile truck engine, meaning. - You can actually use your truck as a truck, without suffering from the lack off power/torque.
