More turbo hiss please!

I have noticed a recurring theme from EB owners. A lot of us wish the turbos were louder on these trucks.

With that in mind, post your solutions on how we can get those turbos to really sing. Theres got to be something we can do.

I have had loud turbos before, the novelty turns to irritation quickly. Other vehicles can hear mine, They turn their heads when the wastegates pop off.

I disagree. I love that turbo hiss. Used to drive a 7.3 powerstroke for a former employer, loved that turbo sound on that truck!

In any case, I would still like to hear any ideas on this. However, I am not sure how much louder they can get, given that these EB turbos are so small, they may just not be very loud to start with?

Well, if you are hell bent on the noise, you could divert the wastegate bypass to the atmosphere. It is currently directed to the exhaust to eliminate noise. You will need to do both sides..........

More turbo noise is going to require bigger turbos. Also, you're probably going to need to relocate them. The reason the 7.3L Powerstroke has so much turbo hiss is because it's a massive Garrett sitting right in the firewall. Believe it or not, Diesels don't have a diverter or blow off valve on them (they don't need it)

If all you want is more turbo whistle, most of the aftermarket exhausts I've heard on YouTube seem to enhance the sound of the turbos quite well.

Maybe its the poor audio quality I have heard on some of these YouTube vids that I am not hearing much if any difference. I am not interested in wastegate whooshing noises, just looking to enhance the turbo whistle. I wish I could hear an exhaust modified EB in person to get a better idea on how well it actually works.

Might not be the same on these trucks but when I had my diesel changing the exhaust didn't change the turbo sound much at all. The big change in sound came when I installed an AFE open air intake (like a KN filter setup). That really made the turbo sing.

Fellas that woosh you here when you let off the throttle under boost is the bypass valve relieving the boost pressure. I have the AFE stg 2 intake with the SCT tuner and you hear the turbos sucking in a lot more as well as the bypass when you let off the throttle under boost.

Best of luck to whatever you go get! I too would like to hear an exhaust in person.

Hopefully down the road someone will have a whole kit for the intake plumbing in these trucks. There's plenty of room to improve. Once more trucks go out of warranty and folks are less gun-shy about mods.

I also enjoy the sound of the turbos and wish it were louder. As far as the afe stage 2 kit, does it happen to throw any codes to the maf? Do you need to do a tune to prevent it? I would like to install a CAI but have had issues with them before.

No codes and the MAF plugs into the new intake tubes.

No MAF on the Eco Boost. It uses MAP and thats intake temp that plugs into the intake.
