Bought my 06 XL 1/2 ton regular cab 4.2 5 speed new in 06. It is my daily driver. No mods. No real problems. Great truck. Just turned 57k on the odometer. Around town I get 14 - 16 mpg, but on the hi way I regularly get a solid 26 mpg. I get up to about 62 mph and engage the cruise control.

Love my truck!

62 and 63 seem to be the mpgs sweet spot. Mine does 26+ also but 65mph will drop it to around 21mpgs.

Only more 10 ft/lbs of torque however. I think you could get 50 more ponies and at least 300 ft/lbs out of our 4.2's. It may not be cheap but I'm pretty sure it is do-able. What do I know? I can't even vote yet!
yes it does get a lot more horsepower but thats due to having overhead cams instead of push rod. yes its much more powerful just like a jap vehicle. however overhead cams instead of pushrods only mean one thing... valve tolerance checks... no thanks ill stay with the push rod for myself.

If anyone can DM me please I'm curious as to see how this motor comes apart if there's any tricks anything like that I'm actually an old Chevy Jeep fan as you can see in my name but I just had the thing blow up on me today creamy oil water in the intake by the air filter but to me if they're in there I was trying to pull somebody I didn't know it blew up on me sprayed a little ether in the intake and started right up but after that you shut down about a minute later and would not start back up keep on turning over so it wasn't hydro locked but yeah I'm just curious if anyone's got any 10 bits or tricks for me to take off that intake or anything to watch out for ETC thank you all for any input and God bless
