Question 4.2 "lifter ticking" sound upon start up

2007 F150,4.2V6,84K miles

Am I the only one with a 4.2 that makes a "lifter ticking" noise upon start up,then fades away as the engine warms up?

I don't think that's necessary - I'm using 5W20 in mine and it's quiet with 151k on it.

Did you ever find out what was making the noise for sure? Was it the filter? I'm curious seeing as we have almost identically spec'ed trucks, might as well keep an ear out. Thanks and good luck!
