It Lives! Father and Son Project

Our 97 F150 4.2 father and son project lives! We just got it running tonight after rebuilding the engine. Ford doesn't make it easy to get that engine out of there do they! We found a 97 F150 XLT extended cab with only 73K miles and a seized engine for $2,000. They couldn't figure out why it wouldn't turn over, but I knew, Water in #1 doesn't compress. The connecting rod was bent, but we tore it all the way down for my son's experience. This has been a great project and a little elbow grease has turned this truck into something any 17 year old boy can be proud of! We also redid the headliner in Mossy Oak Break-up and it came out great! I need to post some pictures!

It does have a slight exhaust leak and it doesn't quite idle as smothly as I would like. Is there a need to go back and adjust the lifters? It's a little sluggish in throttle response as well. Any suggestions?

Congrats on getting the old girl running again.

On the idle issue, my first thought would be to check all the vac hoses for any cracks/holes and check all the PCV elbows, when they get old they tend to take on an hourglass shape which restricts the flow.

BAN???

I think I was able to post these pictures of the headliner correctly. Please have a look. I can describe how we did it and where I got the headliner material from if you'd like.

Thanks for the compliments!

The headliner was really not that hard and makes a huge difference if you don't like the smell of cigarette smoke. The biggest pain is getting ALL of the old headliner and foam removed. You have to peel the old headliner material off and use a NEW wire brush to remove the foam. The curved up wire from an old brush makes it more difficult.
We ordered the foam-backed camo material from http://www.yourautotrim.com/mooaknewbrca.html which is the ONLY place on the internet I could find this stuff with the foam back. We bought two yards of material at $18.95 per yard since we have an extended cab truck. We also purchased 2 cans of the high temp spray adhesive from them for $10 each as well. Cheap adhesives will let you down!
We laid the headliner pan on our kitchen table after spraying it thoroughly with the adhesive out in the garage. We then sprayed the headliner material backing and the four of us carefully laid the material onto the pan starting in the center. We were careful to work out the wrinkles as we moved to the outside edges. Be sure to wrap the material over the edges and don't scrimp on the glue. We then used a razor knife to cut out the holes. Let it dry overnight and you have a great new headliner any redneck would be proud of! My son really wanted Mossy Oak Duck Blind camo but they didn't have it.
