My new Ecco Boost
#17
My new F150 arrived yesterday Feb 8, 2011. The good--It is so quiet. I love the shift points, 1300-1500 while loafing. Great torque. The steering and handeling are great. I have been waiting for something to come along and give me a better truck than my 2004 Duramax. Now the bad Hmmmm. I left the dealership and drove 70 straight miles, flat road, tail wind, set cruise at 60. The lie-o-meter never showed over 17.2. When I drove the demmo at Fargo before new years, the drivers were telling me they were seeing 29-30. O K. I guessed that this new engine would be a game changer for Ford. I am selling my Ford stock this morning.
Fill it up with some real unblended 87 octane and report back to us. Under those conditions with 3.73 gears 18" rims I was expecting 23-24 from mine - at best. Id be happy with 22mpg round trip. So we'll see.
If I go with a tune I'll call this guy:

Or I'll call Livernois, I talked to Andy there and he did a great job really knew his stuff and clearly explained everything.
I called Henessey but the guy I talked to was a fool. I might call them one more time and speak to someone else just to check. They do some great work there so I was suprised to speak to someone so far in left field.
Let us know if it gets better, enjoy the truck!

Let's get serious here, if anyone thought it was going to get better than low twenties... they were silly.Never the less the truck IS a game changer because the damn thing can get 22 mpg AND churn out 400 ft-lbs at under 2000 rpms. Here's to you Ford

iFarm, Thanks for the Update. Your 18.4, what was the mix of city, hwy driving? I am hopeing to get mid 19mpg for my commute, but I could be happy with 18's...
18.4 is pretty decent for a full size truck. What cab/bed/rear do you have?
My 4.2 Scab f150 got 15-16, and my 3.0 scab Ranger got 18... If I can match or beat that old Ranger, I will be happy.
I have not see an OWNERS report yet that said they got real 22mpg on the highway (fillup to fillup), only the "instant read" showing mid 20's when it was reset after the cruise was locked a 70, usually reported by a sales guy, or on one of the special "test drive" trucks.... Yea, my old 3.7 could do that too (reading MPG thru the ODB), but by the time you add in getting up to speed, slowing down, and finding a gas station to top off and find the REAL mileage, it was down to 16 or so...
I hope for a true 19 combined, and will be happy with that. But 19 is not a game changer. Give us a 250hp, 400ft/lb small diesel, showing 20/30 on the sticker, getting a real 25 combined, then that might be a game changer...

Additionally, IMHO I hope they keep working on half ton gas motors. I know the idea of diesel is cool but, the maintenance cost and the cost of fuel almost offsets the improvement in mpgs.

I guess I feel like the change in mentality is the game changer. A couple years ago we were all crying for a bigger motor to out muscle the other makers' trucks. Now we've got more power AND the same motor just happens to get better mileage. Now all of us mean growly truck lovers are swooning over turbo whistle and mpgs.

To me, a game changer would be a truck that is an inch SMALLER in every direction, 1000lbs lighter, have about 250HP, and get +20 mpg for average drivers.

Indeed... had that Tacoma fighting 'world Ranger' come to the US, I definitely would've been taking home an order guide. Bring on the F-100 EB!
