exhaust leak right side (mainfold?) - '99 4.2l

Does anyone have experience with an exhaust 'ticking', most noticeable at startup and under load? Sounds like one cylinder only, right side, I would guess leaking around manifold. Heard about bolts rusting apart, but does that apply to the 4.2l? Any advice on fix?
Thanks for any info.

I know on mine the wires were originally routed on top of the exhaust manifold. I would take a quick look for a burned wire arching.

thanks, but it is in fact an exhaust leak....

It's definitely an exhaust leak, I was just checking to see how common it is on the 4.2l, and which is the most likely component to have failed (flange, manifold crack, broken stud). Also interested to hear about fixes, if it's easy to remove manifold on these trucks, etc. Thanks for the reply.
