oil drain plug size?

I recently purchased a '99 f-150 with the 4.2L v6 and was going to change the oil, but don't have a socket or wrench to fit. I'm guessing it's a metric 15mm. Is this correct?

It's 15mm or 16mm. What you need to do is go out and buy a simple metric tool kit that has:

-Socket wrench
-Extension
-Spark plug socket
-10mm-18mm sockets

It shouldn't cost more that $40.00 and will last forever if you don't lose anything. As men, we have a responsibilty to buy tools. We have to keep on buying more and more tools until we die and leave them to our children in our will.

Also: When you change the oil, you should be able to remove the filter with gloved hands if you don't have a filter wrench. You should also pre-fill the oil filter with about 1/2 qt before you put it on the engine. Only use quality filters like Motorcraft. No FRAM filters

Question

What are wrong with fram filters? I have used them for 90 K and had no problems. Is there something I should know?

Thanks.

My 2001 F150 has a 13 mm drain plug...go figure

Also, there have been many threads regarding Fram filters...they are sure junk. Purolator, Mobil 1, Wix are all good.....NOT Fram!!

Thanks guys. Out of probably 50 or 60 sockets and wrenches that I have, of course the 15mm is the one I don't have. I bought one today and it fits.
