Question Performance Chips for 4.2 V6

Hey,

I've got a 1999 V6 4.2 L, 5 spd.

I'm starting to go for performance upgrades now that I have a nice audio system worked out.

I plan to start with a flowmaster exhaust system, 1 pipe coming from engine, 2 going out with 3" tips.. getting this done for $180 and does anyone have recommendations on that?

I also want to add an intake and performance chips later.

I've heard the AirAid is good, but I cannot seem to find a good chip for the V6 4.2.

Could someone send me a link and perhaps give me a recommendation?

Thanks,

=Trey=

You may get more responses in the “Computer Chips” forum down below. Superchips has a chip for the 4.2 that adds somewhere around 25hp or so and 30 or so ftlbs of torque. You will get better information there. Mike is the Superchips rep in that forum and you can either ask him questions on that forum or use the information below to contact him.

Hope that helps…

Definitely get the chip! I have 35s on my truck and bought the chip before I lifted it. Well I changed the gears too and now I had to send my chip to my to reprogram. All I gotta say is I WANT MY CHIP BACK FASSSST! i really notice the loss in power.

And out of my airaid, jba headers, and FM exhaust, and chip, I would say the chip was absolutely the BEST mod for the money!

MAC will probably be your cheapest intake. It runs around $150. As for the chip I just bought a superchip today, have to wait to get it and get the program burned, but I'll let you know how it turns out. Im kinda skeptical, but people tell me its really worth it, but again I dunno...I guess I'll find out once I get it.

I dont paticularly care for flowmaster, but you may so I guess its kinda up to you. I have magnaflow and Im fairly pleased with it. I'd probably go with that or dynomax?

A few months ago I pulled my Superchip out to experiment with mileage and performance. Results were summarized in this forum, if you search back.

Bottom line is the chip is never coming out again. Not sure about peak power gains, but at normal driving rpm the truck has far more power for passing, takes less throttle to maintain the same freeway speed, etc...

I got much better mileage with the chip, but there is no real $$ savings there as premium fuel was more expensive. The main gains are in performance. It's a BIG difference on my truck.
