Teach Me About The Straight 6
Alright, might be looking into a new truck, 92, 4X4. I don't know for sure but I'm guessing it's a 302 or a straight six. It's also a manual.
What all should I know about the inline 6 cylinders ?
~Thanks.

Dependable, strong old engines that use a lot of gas.

My experience is yes, pretty bad. Maybe someone else will chime in with the opposite experience.

Well, we bought it. 92 F-150 Custom. 4X4, Standard cab long bed, has a farming hitch and a toolbox for the bed.

Daily driver. My 5.4L is starting to act up. Broken Manifold bolts, now leaking coolant from the broken bolts. Short in the wiring saying it overheats randomly and what not. And it has 240,000 miles.

Not going to dump money into the 5.4L, going to clean it up and sell it as is.

The 300 is one of the greatest engines Ford has ever built. Take care of it, and it'll take care of you. Drive it like it was a diesel (i.e., don't rev the piss out of it, they tend to bend pushrods and break rocker arms doing that).

Great engine, better than a 302. Will last forever.

That's because the 300 is a truck engine and the 302 is a car engine. The 300 is bog slow but it will pull anything. It's all low end torque and absolutely no horsepower.
