OEM Tach Install

Okay, for the life of me I cannot seem to find any info of how to install an OEM cluster with the tach and wire it all up. I want an OEM tach so bad. Grafix, if your reading this, can you post all relevant info on how you did it? I'm wondering if these trucks came wired for them already or do I have to run that tach cable down to wherever it goes myself. Thanks for all the info.

I thought the wire harness for the tach was there just not used, kinda like how the wiring harness for factory fogs are installed even if the truck never came with fogs. I know my truck has the fog harness and no fogs. I'm looking to do this too but its hard finding a cluster with analog odometer for the 97-98s.

and like 2 months later i still havent got them to work...

apparently ford is too lazy to run all the wires sometimes

for the fogs all you need is the headlight switch with the fogs, or just run your own switch to energize the relay, everything else is there

ill look up some diagrams tonight

Pull out old and put new in... Pretty sure its that simple.

You will just need your mileage put in to make it legal.

no, its not. if you're getting the version w/ the digital odometer, you have to bolt it in, and take it to the dealership to program it to your PATS. the truck will not start until it has been flashed by the dealer. they will also program the correct mileage to the truck. i'm not sure of what other wiring issues you'll run into.

in that case, he can actually physically take the cluster apart and turn the numbers himself to reset the odometer. good luck finding the correct cluster assembly.

okay, i have a 1998 analog with no tach. I found a rear-ended F-150 XLT at a junkyard WITH a tach. can i pull the cluster from it and directly plug into mine? does my truck have the tach cable already installed? or do i have to run a wire? and who cares about mileage, mines been stuck at 168,865 for the past 7 months
