out of oil??

hey, my moms got a 97 f150 2wd v6 and its been smoking under the hood a little bit latley and we checked the oil and it's got none. Were not sure how long we have been running it without but i'm guessing about 5,000 miles because that was the last oil change. but the truck has a brand new engine with only about 9,000 miles on it so is i don't think i have to worry about hydrolocking. Any input appreciated, also the truck still cranks and runs fine

yea hah that's the first thing i did but we found out today that it was whichever idiot changed the oil last left the oil filter too loose. The truck is fine now but was too much of a close call.

was it a shop? go back there and:

A.) chew the management out

B.) demand a full refund

C.) do oil changes on your own. theyre not that hard

...speaking of which, im overdue for a change. ill do that tomoorrow

Hydrolocking is not when you run it out of oil.

i know that, I worded that bad sorry. But i meant to throw that question in also if it's only the engines out of the factory in 97-98 that have the bad gaskets. I wouldn't have to worry about this with a replaced engine from a shop would I?

oil changes are exceptionally easy on for trucks, i don't even have to jack mine up and i love it, i'm used to working on cars.
