For those in speculation on whether or not to clean the throttle body on your truck. It is very straight-forward to do and should only take a maximum of 30 minutes to do. Anyone who knows how to turn a screw can do this.
Note: Proceed at your own risk. This post is solely for informational purposes only. I will not be held responsible for any damages to occur. Also, this process was done with an aftermarket K&N Series-77 Cold Air Intake in place of the stock intake. If you have a stock intake, or another brand of intake with different mounting pieces, the process may be different.
1.) Here's the first step in doing this. Take a trip to your local automotive store and pick up a can of Throttle Body Cleaner. DO NOT get Carb cleaner, these vehicles are fuel injected. I picked up a 12 oz. can of STP Throttle Body/Intake Cleaner. Some places may reject customers under 18, but my AutoZone didn't so for those under age, check before you stand in line for 20 minutes.
For my intake, I used a 6/29 Allen wrench and you can opt. to use a 10mm wrench to take off the throttle cable cover for additional room to work with.
2.) I opted to take off the throttle cable cover so I could spin up the engine from the engine bay rather than being in the cab. Remove both 10mm bolts and place aside. I then used a 6/29 Allen wrench head and removed both brackets on my 90 degree elbow to my CAI tube. I used the rubber fitting to hold it out of the way.
3.) Shake the can well and fire away. You can immediately see all the carbon buildup wash away. Pull the throttle butterfly open and spray down there. The opening past the butterfly leads to the intake manifold, so your engine will be hesitant to start at first. Once you belive you have used enough to clean it out, let it all air dry and behind reassembly.
