So I'm looking at getting a 2011 Fx4. Apparently truck is at some dealer 'up north.'
I wont list up all the options etc., but the truck already has a few options that I didnt really want in the first place, namely:
- moonroof
- side steps
- bed step
- trailer brake controller
Total cost for the options per the canadian ford website is ~1,900.
According to preliminary offer from the dealer:
$52,349 mrsp
- 12,037 in incentives
------------------
40,312
+ 1,570 for freight, some random tax, and one more thing i cant remember
------------------
41,882
+ 12% tax
----------------
46,908
Now the question is, how low can I go? I have a feeling they wont budge on the freight, etc and obviously tax is what it is, so based on the $40,312 starting point what can I go with? $38,000? $37,000? less It is a cash sale and no trade-in.
I've never bought a new car from a dealer, but I'm definitely not one to be pushed into something. I'm also not the type to be intimidated by a fast talking manager in a cheap suit.
Thanks for the advice guys
(sry to moderators, I originally posted this in the buyers tip and tricks section when I meant it for here)
Yeah, 12% tax is a bitch but unfortunately, it is what it is!
I guess just due to my inexperience with new car purchases, how low is reasonable? There are already great ford incentives on the trucks and the dealer will obviously try to make it seem that the price they offer is the best they can do.
It's a good question. I'm in the SF Bay Area. Our Ford dealers offer dealer discounts without much probing, anywhere from $1,500 to $3,500. The $3,500 was on a 26K MSRP Ford F150 XL. Given the higher price on your truck, I would think $4K or more.
Another strategy which I use is to find 2-3 volume dealers and see if you can find their low price by going back and forth.
I wonder if the "incentives" you listed already includes a dealer discount?
My deal is $42,850, less applicable rebates when it comes in. I think the rebates should be at least $3,250, which gets me to $39,600, $8,955 off MSRP. He didn't make me put anything down, so I guess I can back out if the rebates don't come through.

I'm new to Ford. How'd I do?
I think that's pretty good. I've been looking pretty hard for about a month and you don't often find $10k off of sticker including rebates on a 2012, particularly one all loaded up with the options you've selected, namely Ecoboost and Nav. It can happen with a 2011, but most dealers won't discount 2012's that much yet. I'm generally finding about $7k off of sticker in my area on 2012's including rebates.
