How much should I expect to be able to talk the dealer down? Looking to get a new fx4 screw, and the wife may be getting an Escape at the same time.
Anybody got any tips for talking the dealer down. I was thinking about going in and just saying il give them 500 over invoice right now, take it or leave it???

I'm assuming thats like an employee discount. No, dont know anyone who works for Ford. I was hoping thought they would do another friends and family discount like they did last year, I thought that was their best discount ive seen.

1) Do lots of homework, figure out your must haves/cant stands, learn the different styles and the trim levels (XL, XLT, etc)
2) have the salesman open up a car for you, test drive if you want
3) Tell him "I want that car [point to car] give me your best bottom line deal, and an offer I'd be a fool to turn down."
4) This is where the homework comes in, when they quote you a price weigh it against your max price and the actual cost of the car. Nada is a good resource for this information
5) at this point, if you are happy with the price then go for it. If not, walk away and repeat at another dealership.
Sometimes, the salesman will not give you the best price right away but when you go to leave they'll give you a good deal. Take that if you want, but remember you can always come back later. The salesman is trying to "get you in the car today" so as long as you remember that, you can use it to your advantage. Something along the lines of " I'm ready to buy today so long as you give me a deal I cannot refuse."
Oh, and one other thing, never ever ever tell you what you truly think about the car. That goes for the wife too, trust me I know, my fiance came with me to get my truck and she was like OH I love it, its got leather seats. You have to remain objective, uninterested, yet engaged.
Golden Rule: You have all the power in this game, all you have to do is walk away.
I agree with FireEngineer, don't be afraid to walk away!!!
I stopped by my dealer several times a week to see what he could offer me also to figure out exactly what I wanted (sync, leather, NO wood grain). Every time I stopped in they tried to get me to walk out the door with my new toy.
I called every dealer in about a 300 mile radius just to see what they had sitting around. Test drove several different trucks (XL, XLT, Lariat, FX4) found what I wanted and came up with my magic number. I read that 10-25% off sticker is a good deal so I decided 25% off was it. Picked out my truck, loaded FX4, again called around told them what I wanted to pay and they went for it, the rest is history.
Good luck, afterall you are buying two at once they should bend over backwards for you, make them earn it!!!
have you tried getting the internet price? you may be able to get the best deal right from your desk there. Just pick two vehicles on the dealer's lot and email asking to deal with the internet manager and ask for an internet price quote.
Keep in mind that you may be able to ask them for invoice price on a vehicle, and they may tell you. you can pay invoice because there are more dollars involved than invoice, and the dealer will still make out. You can even ask what the xplan price is, and they may tell you.
