If it's the same as my '97, it's on the end of the transmission housing just before the yoke to the driveshaft. Kinda on top. It's held on with just one nut. There will be a small rubber "O" ring to seal it on the inside. Don't damage it. The gear should should just pull off and you can put your new one on. I did it in about two minutes. I didn't disconnect the wire harness to it or disconnect the battery.

Not sure. If I remember, there were several wires on the connector. These just lead up and through the bowels of the truck to who knows where. Any reason you are looking to find the color of these? Looking to see where it comes out in the engine compartment?

I looked at mine, and there are a 'ton' of wires leading to and from this thing. All seemed to be the same color, brownish. And those where the ones I could actually see. The rest was wrapped up tight with tape and I couldn't tell. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
