Unhappy my first 5-sp failure

It happened at 70,716 miles, while shifting from first to second. As I pulled it into second, the shift knob came flying off! It rolled somewhere under the seat, out of sight. OK, grab the naked stick and pull it into second and keep going. Only a mile more to work. Sure feels weird without the knob. Got to work, found the knob, and pressed it back on. The good news: I put it back on so the shift pattern insert now faces the right way! My truck is now better than before the "failure".

I think your shifting to hard.

It took some pulling to get the nob off.
