I have a little problem. The shift pattern emblem on the top of the shifter knob is moving. It is now pointing so someone looking in the passenger side window can read it. But when I physically try to turn the knob or shifter back it does not appear loose. I am pretty sure that it use to be pointed properly for me to read from driver position. Any ideas? I have a very audible vibration sound when cruising in 5th gear coming from the shifter. This can be quieted by holding the shifter (not practical). I don’t think the emblem itself is loose but could be. I hope the shifter can't unscrew?
The little disc that has the shift pattern is known to rotate around a bit. I can tap mine and make a clicking sound that has rattled in the past when the stick vibrates sometimes.
Best thing to do is get a new shift knob! But more practially, the knob itself will pull straight off, don't try to twist, just yank on it. Then you can place it back where you want. I have also done it by just putting the palm of my hand on it, and twisting the way I wanted it adjusted.
As far as the disc rattling, might need to try a dot of epoxy or something. That will prevent it from moving.

I have the exact same problem. As the previous post suggested, I use the flat of my palm to turn it. Takes a couple rotations to get it moving. What's weird is you can't do it with your fingers and thumbs, just the palm of your hand.
I hope this helps, as it's kind of embarrasing that some members here are capable enough to basically holding my hand through getting a locker, but the only advice I can render is:
1) Hold palm flat
2) Rotate flat palm on shift knob.
Oh well. Let me know if you are having problems with lug nuts or changing your oil. Anything else is above my head.

The shift pattern is made to move so the user can adjust it to his or her needs. All you do is place the flat of your thumb on it push down slightly and click it either way until it lands where you want it........................

I got it back in line now. Thanks for the help. Still have the audible vibration noise when in 5th gear and driving around 70 mph. I think its the whole shifter making the noise (resonating). It gets annoying and I crank up the stereo to mask it. Does anyone else have this?
It will get looser over time and start to rattle. On my Ranger I pryed it out of the top of the shifter, put some 2 part epoxy putty in there and put it back in. It never moved after that Just make sure you pry from the back of the shifter.

I have a slight vibration in the shifter in 5th gear at highway speeds. I haven't thought much of it. The shifter seems to pick up every vibration, like when I run over an expansion joint. The shifter seems loose at time like that. I've driven a lot of different manuals, they all seem to be a little loose. Let the dealer know. If there is some kind of problem, let us know.

For a quick fix, like 200f-150 4x4 stated, just pry the center piece out, be careful not to dent the knob, then I used Testors model cement. It works great, no more vibration or spinning..
