Post F-150 will not shift tothird gear

1997 F-150 automatic 2wd. Truck will not shift to third gear.It used to shift at about 3,000 rpm. Now it goes way up and when I let off gas it sort of goes into neutral(ie. rpm goes up but truck does not go..)When speed gets back to second gear range or if I shift to second all is okI had fluid changed about 4,000 miles ago and level is still correct. No noise, squeels etc.. just no third gear

I had the same problem with my '97 F150 4x4
It turned out to be the accumulator (there was a part change. Try that it caost me $150
canadian and it shifts fine now.

I had the same exact problem at 3,000 miles. It would always do this first thing in the morning, then usually go away after awhile then start again. Dealer first replaced 2-3 accumulator piston but that did not fix it. They then replaced the entire transmission under warranty. Now at 8,500 miles and it still works great. Good Luck.
