Post Strange smell and steam coming out of vents

After driving home from Florida this weekend to Pa my windows started to fog up. There was also an unusual smell (like a wet wool blanket). The defrost was set on high heat but was barely luke warm. The defrost was adding humidity to the windshield. It was so wet in fact it seemed like it was sprayed with a misting water bottle. When I shut the defrost off and put the heater on there was actually steam (or some kind of vapor coming through the vents. I'm stumped any suggestions would be grealy appreciated.

Yeah, sounds like a leaky heater core. Have that checked out. The smell and moisture is coolant.
