manual trans shifting slow, want info on aftermarket

I have a 98 f150 with a 4.6L and a 5speed manual transmission. From day one, it has always shifted slow. Its like it just hangs between gears and then releases. For example: The shift from 1st to second go like this: it comes out of first, hangs between gears, and then finally goes into second. It doesn't matter how hard i shift it still won't go untill it wants to go. And the faster the rpm the worst this gets. So it is very hard to race, i have to take so much time with a shift or else i will grind. I want it to shift smooth like a mustang. Is there anything that i can buy to get it to shift like I want? Hey man

a problem that my truck was that the synchros were gone from gear 1->2 and 2->3, they were replaced about 10k ago, but the tranny is still bunk.

I'll keep an eye on this post to see if there is anything that comes up, becuase I, too would like to get some aftermarket for better shifts on the ol' truck.
