Post BELLHOUSEING FOR 4R100?

I WAS CURIOUS IF THE V-10 OR THE LIGHTNING ENGINE WILL BOLT UP TO THE 4R100 IN THE F150 WITH THE 7700 PAYLOAD PKG?

The bolt pattern on the 5.4L and the 6.8L are the same.

Either the Lightning engine or the V10 will eat up the 4R100 that came with your F150.

they won't bolt up, per se. The bolt pattern is the same, but the v-10 and the Lightning 5.4 both use a 6 bolt converter and the 4R100 that comes in the regular 5.4 uses a 4 bolt converter, so at the least you'll need the "blue" converter (6 bolt gas), but that said, there's a lot more going on inside than just "bolting up", if you put the 6 bolt converter on a regular 5.4 model 4R100, you still have a lot of internal hard parts that are designed for the less powerful engine. There are about 30 differetn variations of the 4R100 each made for a specific application, if you want to buy the parts the one you have can be made to work correctly with either of the other two motors, but your best bet is to find one built for the engine you're swapping to, or have someone who builds trannies build you one for your specific application. (I do this, to do it right I need EXACTLY what engine you are swapping to, and it'll cost about $1000 with a core), but regardless of how you go, I agree with Mark (who really knows his stuff, by the way) that if you put either a 6.8 or a S/C 5.4 in it with the tranny you have now, you're asking for trouble. If you want me to build you one, I have a Lighting tranny now, was replaced in the truck it came in at 12,000 miles and I have rebuilt it to factory specs, let me know. Background, I am a 4R100 repairman at Ford Sharonville transmission Plant, this is what I do for a living and you'll get the box you need. Let me know if you're interested.

True, but that is after the torque converter multiplies torque 2:1. Also, that is the ultimate strength of the box in it's strongest form. The strongest one is used in the Lightning and the diesel trucks. The 4R100 used in the 5.4L is not as strong because the engine does not need that much torque capacity.

Ah I see, I stand corrected. Well I guess it would be safe to say that I have the strongest version of the 4R70W in my truck LOL.

Thanks for the excellent info. I will keep all of those things in mind later on but for now i will go with a shift kit until i decide which way i want to go with this truck.
With all of those variations that are mentioned does that also mean a shift kit will be different between the 4r100 in the 5.4l, in the superduty and the lightning? Can anyone recommend a good shift kit for my configuration?

Check out these links for a inexpensive mod for your 4R100. I bought these items and will be installing them soon. Total cost is about $40 for the parts.
