Low trany fluid level from dealer!

I had a trans. warning light so I took my truck to the dealer. They found the problem and replaced a shift solenoid. Shortly after getting my truck back I noticed a slip once every morning first couple of start-stops and then normal the rest of the day. Thought the problem had just started back so I planed to take the truck back as soon as I could. Meantime I put a few weeks driving on it including a trip out of town (1000 miles). The weather got a little colder and the problem was a little more noticable so I finally pulled my head out and checked the fluid level...two full quarts to get it into the "do not add" area of the dip stick!! Works ok now but what could it have done to my trany? They did not put enough in it and I want to ream somone but could it have done dammage to the bands etc. It says don't drive the vehicle if the fluid is below that mark..it was not even on the dip stick! Any trany experts out there know what I should say to the dealer when he says it seems to be ok? I had the same issue with my vehicle. I was bringing it in faithfully to the dealer for the 3K oil change and the expected fluid checks and top-offs. Decided to check my fluid levels myself one day, found that I needed almost 2qts of Mercon V in my tranny too!

Boy, I was pissed. I do my own fluid changes now, only bring my truck in if something more complex needs to be addressed. I'm not a tranny expert, but after you've correctly topped off your tranny (yourself, of course), and it's not slipping or acting up, you should be fine. I tow a 4800 lb boat, and haven't a single problem with my tranny after insuring that it had enough fluid.
