Speed Sensor location

My speedometer stopped working and I have determined that it must be because of a faulty speed sensor. I thought this part was located in the transfer case, but when I bought the new one, the parts. dept person told me that it went on the side of the transmission. This part looks nothing like the part I believed to be the sensor on the transfer case. I cannot find anything like this part on my transmission. Does anyone know where the sensor for the speedometer is located? Truck is a 2000 5.4 4X4.

The part your thinking about would be the old gear driven type sensor right? Well on 99 and newers think again all the speed sensing stuff is electronically controlled. I'm sure there's some part/senosr that reads the speed but not sure of it's location or operation on a 99 or newer. Only the 97 and 98 hadd the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) which is mounted on the driver side t-case(4x4 only of cousre).

I believe it's on top of the read end. I had mine replaced (ABS light came on mine) while it was in at the dealer getting brakes.
