The shop manual says that the torque converter drain bolt must be replaced with a new one if it is removed. Has anyone had any trouble using the original bolt after draining? Maybe some thread-lock would be appropriate?

True, but you could easily strip a new one with fine threads also. I put mine in and touqued to spec with no problem.
