Angry DOH! Overfilled the tranny

I changed the fluid a while back and overfilled a bit (ok maybe more than a bit, the fluid is at least an inch above the max line on the dipstick. I'm thinking of trying to siphon it out with a hose through the filler tube....

My question, i've put about 3K on it since though... i haven't really noticed any slipping, etc, but would this have damaged it already (the owners guide warns it can)

thx

You can either siphon it or pull the torque converter plug (if you have one).

As far as damage done, prolly none.

The easy way to lower the fluid level is buy a
siphoning syringe at an auto parts store. Attach a long piece of tubing to the end and thread it down
the fill tube. Then suck out what as much as you have to. Its a nice tool to have around for other applications, like emptying out your radiator overflow tank or differentials. The other way is to drain some out through the torque converter drain plug.

As far as damage, I don't know, maybe a transmission expert can respond to this.

Good luck.

I drained the trany fluid out of my wife's car by getting a piece of narrow tubing and siphoning out the old fluid. (I broke one bolt on the pan, and I could tell a couple of others were going to suffer the same fate, so I abandoned the original plan of also changing the filter). After sucking on the tube to start the siphoning, I let gravity and hydrostatic pressure take over and it drained almost completely overnight.

I got my tubing from leftover stuff at work, but you probably buy it at Lowes for $0.05-0.10 per foot.
